Golden Record

What it is

In master data management, a golden record is the single authoritative version of an entity, assembled by matching and merging records from several systems and resolving the conflicts between them. It is sometimes called the single version of the truth: the record other systems are expected to defer to rather than argue with.

Why it matters

The golden record is the idea a claim registry borrows, and the instructive part is the sequence. MDM platforms do not ask every system to agree; they resolve conflicts once, centrally, and publish the resolved version back out. Reconciliation happens before anything downstream is allowed to treat the record as truth — which is exactly the step most retrieval systems skip when they index a corpus and start answering from it.
